The easy-to-use masks provide particularly effective warm compress therapy
TEMECULA, Calif. – March 17, 2021 – Eye Eco, Inc., an innovator in natural, drug-free hydrating products for the eyes, today announced results of a study validating the clinical benefits of its moist heat masks, Tranquilvibes and Tranquileyes XL, for improving the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Patients who used the masks to treat tired, dry, gritty, inflamed eyes felt better, improved corneal health and showed nearly 70% improvement in tear film stability.
Dry eye disease has been diagnosed in more than 16 million American adults,1 but prevailing opinion puts the undiagnosed number higher, especially as screen time continues to escalate. About 86% of dry eye is caused by MGD in the eyelids,2 for which first-line treatment is warm compresses. Tranquileyes XL and Tranquilvibes masks were designed to make warm compresses for MGD easy, effective and uniformly predictable, with optimum heat (102-110° F) and humidity (89-94%).
“Dry eye is a chronic, progressive condition caused primarily by MGD that requires home care for effective management. Eye care practitioners are always looking for ways to make home care simpler and more effective,” explained Leslie O'Dell, OD, the study’s lead investigator. “In this study, the combination of heat and humidity in Tranquileyes XL and in Tranquilvibes, which adds vibration to massage the eyelids, significantly improved both dry eye symptoms and objective markers of ocular surface health. It’s clearly a very effective warm compress mask for dry eye patients.”
In the randomized multi-center observer-masked study, 35 patients with similar MGD-associated dry eye disease underwent in-office treatment with Tranquilvibes followed by manual gland expression, and then used Tranquilvibes or Tranquileyes XL at home for 20-minute moist heat treatments daily. After 30 days, both groups showed about a 32% better symptom scores, as well as improvements in tear breakup time (~70% increase), conjunctival and corneal staining (~40% and ~30%), conjunctival injection (45%), and anterior blepharitis (~32%). No adverse events were reported.
“It’s particularly gratifying to see Dr. O’Dell’s data show just what a compelling difference Tranquilvibes and Tranquileyes XL make for patients with moderate and severe MGD,” said Eye Eco CEO Suzanne Paulson. “Eye Eco’s dedicated goal is to offer natural, drug-free solutions that alleviate the frustrating symptoms of MGD and dry eye disease, and the data show our treatment technologies are achieving that goal.”
