Lagophthalmos is a condition caused by a malfunction in the facial nerve. Lagophthalmos can be inherited, but it’s also a symptom of some infections, Grave’s disease, Bell’s Palsy and some severe skin conditions. It can also occur after an upper blepharoplasty, a procedure to make the eyes look younger.

People suffering from nocturnal lagophthalmos sleep with their eyes slightly open, and experts estimate that it affects 5-10% of the population.

Untreated lagophthalmos can lead to several vision problems including dry eyes and a higher risk of suffering corneal abrasions. For mild sufferers, sleeping masks and ointments are often recommended.

Sleep Apnea (CPAP Leaks)

Sleep apnea is a chronic condition in which a person’s breathing is interrupted while they sleep. Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common type, which is caused by partial or complete blockage of the airways. It’s estimated that 20 million Americans suffer from this sleep disorder. Typical symptoms are snoring, waking up frequently, daytime sleepiness and morning headaches.

Untreated sleep apnea increases the risk of stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes and heart failure. Most patients are advised to use a CPAP machine (Continuous positive airway pressure machine), which ensures the brain gets enough oxygen. However, air leaks in the CPAP can cause dry eyes, dry or stuffy nose and irritated skin on your face.

Sheltering the eyes from air leaks helps patients to commit to their sleep apnea treatment without suffering the side effects.

Great To Use With A CPAP Mask To Keep Eyes Comfortable
The air diffuser of my CPAP mask blows air right into my eyes. I'd adjust, and move, and shift it, trying to keep the air out of my eyes. After I was diagnosed with corneal map-dot-fingerprint dystrophy, I had to find a solution that would allow me to use my CPAP and protect my eyes. I tried other CPAP masks, I tried other sleep masks, none of them worked until I found this sleep mask. When I wear this sleep mask, my eyes aren't all dried out in the mornings anymore. It's really well designed, c... Read More

I did maintain a nice misty environment inside the mask during the night, so much so that it was fogged up when I awoke. My eyes were refreshed after sleeping with the mask. I had cataract surgery on both eyes a month apart. One eye is healed; the other is three weeks into healing so about halfway there. The surgery and eye drops I used after surgery created my dry eye. To make matters even worse, I wear CPAP when I sleep. So your product is a Godsend, something to use in addition to over-the-co... Read More

My son has Sjogren's syndrome...
My son has Sjogren's syndrome which gives him severe dry eye. He also has to sleep with a Cpap mask that rests just under his eyes, and he would wake up every morning with desperately dry eyes. We have been searching for a while for night goggles that would work with his Cpap mask. We are thrilled with the Eyeseals sleep mask! The Eyeseals are exactly what we have been searching for. It fits perfectly with the mask, it keeps his eyes moist all night, and it protects his eyes from the mask. I wi... Read More

Saved my Eyes!!
I love these things! I have Sjogren's Syndrome with dry, dry eyes. I actually have moisture beading up inside these before I wake up which helps keep my eyes more moist. I highly recommend them.
