Lagophthalmos is a condition caused by a malfunction in the facial nerve. Lagophthalmos can be inherited, but it’s also a symptom of some infections, Grave’s disease, Bell’s Palsy and some severe skin conditions. It can also occur after an upper blepharoplasty, a procedure to make the eyes look younger.

People suffering from nocturnal lagophthalmos sleep with their eyes slightly open, and experts estimate that it affects 5-10% of the population.

Untreated lagophthalmos can lead to several vision problems including dry eyes and a higher risk of suffering corneal abrasions. For mild sufferers, sleeping masks and ointments are often recommended.

Recurrent Corneal Erosions

A corneal erosion occurs when the outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) is damaged. It can occur because of scratches, foreign bodies entering the eye or not properly fitted contact lenses.

Corneal erosions usually heal on their own in a few days, but eye patching is recommended. This prevents you from rubbing your eye, reduces pain and facilitates healing. People prone to suffer recurrent corneal erosions are advised to use sleeping masks or ointments at night.

What a relief!
An unexpected result of cataract surgery was dry eyes. The gel they suggested using at night only irritated them, so I gave these a try. I'm also a cpap user and didn't want to add something more to strap to my face, but they not only fit well above my nasal mask, but the cloth strap for the mask actually helps keep the cpap mask straps from sliding on my head. The strap is very thin and has no seams or bumps to irritate. The mask seals well against the skin, but surprisingly comfortable. You do... Read More

I have nocturnal lagophthalmos thanks to Graves disease (boo) and have been struggling with eye issues at night for about a year or so. I've tried a lot and even gels didn't help the whole night. I ran out of options when I decided to try this out as a last ditch effort. I got the Eyeseals 4.0 (in charcoal, I can't sleep with light) and ... I'm so happy I want to cry. It works beautifully! I can sleep through the night again without worrying about my eyes drying out or getting damaged. I was wak... Read More

Eyeseals 4.0
This product is excellent; I had tried all manner of drops and they did very little. My eyes were so getting so red and sore I was concerned I might have to stop working. Now my eyes are refreshed in the morning and the redness in my eyes has nearly completely disappeared. I highly recommend these to dry eye sufferers.

This product does work
I have been using the Eyeseals 4.0 Sleep Mask for about 2 years now, and it works great. I love the way my eyes feels in the morning. I highly recommend this mask.
