There are two versions of thermoeyes™ – an instant, portable version (blue packet) and a microwaveable version called Beads (green). Both can be used for creating Moist Heat and Cold therapies.
The extra heat created by either technology helps open the meibomian glands (little oil glands tucked underneath your eyelashes). When these glands become clogged, the oils are unable to secrete properly. The absence of these oils accelerates the evaporation of your natural tears causing eye dryness, redness and fatigue. The heat loosens the oils, slowing the evaporation of natural tears, improving comfort. The heat is always combined with moisture. The moisture helps to increase the relative humidity around the eyes which further slows evaporation of tears.
The instant version of thermoeyes (blue gel pack) are made with Sodium Acetate (non-toxic, food grade salt water). To use, simply snap the stainless steel disc inside the gel pack, back and forth. This action creates a sound that changes the molecular structure of the sodium acetate from liquid to crystal, which causes heat. This is the highest performance technology on the market. The heat will last approximately 18-20 minutes with the original thermoeyes and up to 30 minutes with the XR version.
They are a little more maintenance than the Beads however worth it if you have the patience. To reuse the blue thermoeyes for heat, they need to be boiled in water for 2-3 minutes. This process reverses the molecular action, melting the crystals to bring them back to a liquid state. Once cooled, simply snap again for heat. The blue instant version can also be used to boost cold therapies by placing them in the freezer or refrigerator.
The microwave version of thermoeyes™ is called Beads. They are made from glycerin which is also non-toxic. The Beads are very easy to use. They come with a fabric pocket. To use, simply place the Bead gel pack into the fabric pocket. For Moist Heat, place the Bead and pocket into water and heat in the microwave. The original Beads will provide heat for approximately 10-12 minutes. The XR version of the Beads will provide approximately 25 minutes of heat. To reuse, simply place back in water and reheat. The Beads are good for approximately 50 uses.
Both sizes are excellent for cold too. Simply moisten the pockets (with Bead inside) and place in the freezer. The Beads will create anywhere from a 20 minute (original) to 45 minute (XR version) of cold therapy.
